Hi folks
Hi folks,
As we continue in Advent, we hear from John the Baptist again (Luke 3:7-18). John’s message had two parts; repent (and he was surprisingly detailed and practical about this) and get ready to meet Jesus.
The prophetic tradition of Israel prepared people for a message like this. Old Testament prophets often rebuked people’s specific sins. They told people that because of the way they treated the poor or disrespected God, they would be punished by God. Most of the prophets also offered hope, that God would then rescue people from the consequences of their sin and restore Israel to health. So when John rebuked them and told them to look for Jesus, people who were looking for God knew what to do.
As we live our Christian lives, we need to hear both parts of John’s message.
Only 10 praying days until Christmas…,
